My Hero

I'm not sure which cartoon prompted the initial interest in the superhero at our house, though it was probably a PBS cartoon months ago.  That was when Amara first created the leading superhero in her fantasy world.  His name?  The Superhero of Life.  What can he do? He can climb on hooks and fly away from meanies.  He runs fast, does fancy tricks and shoots fire out of his hands.  He does super stuff more than any of the other superheroes.  And lets not forget his sidekick and best buddy Vane, or his love interest, the very powerful fairyhero Water Fountain Light.   She shoots water out of her hands, and also uses a wand and spells to make bad things happen to meanies.  She mostly does pretty stuff.

A great villain is critical to any successful hero story, and Amara hasn't missed that point.  Her brave heroes are up against two menacing foes.  The main one being The Rain and the Tane and the Dark and The West.  (I kid you not - she really comes up with this stuff.)  He's pretty strong and he sometimes lies, but he's not as bad as the greatest meanie (who is still a work in progress).  His favorite method of terrorizing goes like this:  He tiptoes into a house.  If he hears a yawn, he sneaks down low so no one knows he's there.  Then he sneaks to a different house.  The other meanie is The Greenings Master.  The Greenings Master is not a single entity, but a group of green meanies.  They live in a back yard and come out when its dark.  Apparently they are very sneaky, because they hide behind a door with a slot in it.  They hang an invisibility sheet out the door crack so no one can see it.  Then they hide until they're ready to come out, which is, of course, when someone unsuspecting is outside on the lawn.  They also like to drink the water outside, so they use their super long tongues to get it.

Amara decided about 6 months ago that she wanted to write a book about her superheroes.  We sat down and made notes about a rather amusing story.  I think my favorite part of all was the title: True Love for Water Fountain Light.  Somehow, I don't think she's quite grasped the typical world of the superhero.  There just might be a little bit of princess mixed in there.

Anyways, this year for Halloween Amara will be a superhero.  We won't be following any of the already created superheroes that everyone knows about.  BORing.  The look will be similar, but there will be pink involved and I'm not sure what the name or insignia will be yet.  More on that later when the costume has actually been put together.

Not to be outdone, Ethan now has a Spiderman and Batman costume, and he spends a lot of his time crawling around being "Rescue Dog" (his creation).   There has been talk about incorporating Rescue Dog or Rescue Cat into the Superhero of Life movie, but how can Ethan play all those parts?  There were tears involved with this discussion.  We might be holding auditions soon.
