Odd Thomas
"My name is Odd Thomas. I am a fry cook. I lead an unusual life..."
After reading through all of the Dresden books both Kristina and I found ourselves searching for something on par with Jim Butcher's protagonist. Thankfully, my parents discovered a series that delivered. The books are based around the character of Odd Thomas, who is a fry cook that can interact with the dead. Don't worry, it isn't at all like the T.V. shows Medium or Ghost Whisperer. An element of horror writing underlies the events of Odd's life, not surprising since the author is Dean Koontz, and the the supernatural world with which he interacts is more interesting than other examples of the "I see dead people" genre.
The books are witty and well written. While I still prefer Dresden and the speed at which Jim Butcher delivers his plot, I really enjoyed Koontz's creativity. I highly recommend the books, especially the third. (The second one is fun, but not as good as the first and third.)
"The dead don't talk. I don't know why." - Odd Thomas
