Lately

Well, I've been a little preoccupied lately with planning out our move, a baby that's sleeping strangely since we got home, etc. Thankfully Alan's been picking up the slack on here a bit. As far as the move, our lease is up, and so we're putting our stuff in storage and heading out to my parents' in CA for awhile until a permanent location is determined. I'll just list a few random things that have happened in the last week, and hopefully tomorrow I'll get back on track with some pictures and more regular blogging...

The other day I dropped a small glass with a sheep on it, breaking it all over the kitchen floor. Amara was present and witnessed the whole thing. I picked it up and threw it away. A few minutes later she went in her room and returned with her little stuffed lamb, presenting it to me with a solemn look. Thanks to her, I now have a lamb to sleep with that will remind me of the broken glass so I won't be sad anymore!!

The other day I heard a strange noise in the kitchen while we were eating in the dining room. What could it be?? I wondered. I went in a couple times, hoping to catch whatever it was in the act, becoming concerned that an animal had found its way into our kitchen during our lengthy trip. The next time I heard it, I rushed into the kitchen, and saw a squirrel peeking through the window of our kitchen door! It was outside, but somehow it had scurried up the kitchen door and was just dangling there, peering in the window. I am really going to miss all the little critters in our backyard.

Ethan can say so many things now! He can say fairly complicated words, like grasshopper and toilet paper, and he's also putting lots of words together to express what he wants. Last night we were upstairs shucking corn, which we were going to cook on thebbq, and he said - corn cook daddy fire.

Ethan and Amara have been really enjoying each other this week now that we're back home and they don't have so many other fun people to play with... Here's a great picture - Amara actually put Ethan's jammies on for him, and as you can see, he was trying his best to be helpful. I helped her a little bit, but she unbuttoned his shirt and talked him through everything. Right now they're sitting in her room playing with paper dolls, and I hear her saying, "Ethan, which one do you want? I put the star one on there for you. Do you want the brown hair? I bet you do. And the girlish one is mine, and the boy one is yours. First we're going to pick out some pants. Do you want some boyish pants? You can have this boyish pants or this boyish pants. Ethan, don't get that out. We're just looking for boyish pants." And he says, "boy pants". Very cute.
