Ethan Lately

I thought it'd be nice to post about what Ethan's been up to lately. Talking. Lots of talking is one thing. I love the window into my child's mind that opens wider and wider as his vocabulary improves. His 2nd birthday is next week, and he keeps saying: My birthday coming up. We asked how old he'd be today, and he said: Too old. I'm pretty sure he meant two years old. The other day we were driving, and he kept asking: Momma, What are you doin' up there? To which I replied: Driving! He also likes to look through all the toy catalogs arriving in the mail lately, and give commentary on the various toys. He saw a dinosaur which he'd played with in a store a few days earlier. Commentary: Dinosaur scary. Roar!! Head goes round and round. And when he doesn't like something, he'll say in a melancholy voice something like this: Sit on the potty anymore (while shaking his head no.) He does this all the time. Eat carrots anymore. Wear shoes anymore. All the time shaking his head no.
Ethan's also learned to jump. He can actually get two feet off the floor a little bit simultaneously, and he loves to jump on beds, couches, ottomans, trampolines (this one is still pretty new to him though)...
Ethan's also been showing preferences for more boyish toys. I know boys and girls are different, but it still surprises me a bit when my kids act so stereotypically. (And don't forget Amara and her pink and princesses.) We've taken a few extra stops by the toy aisle lately to get some birthday and Christmas ideas, and Ethan loves the dinosaurs, trucks, and creepy looking creatures.

And the jokes. He will say something goofy and then announce that he's teasing. Occasionally he'll whack me in the face or something and claim that he's just being funny. Hmmm... The other day Alan went out somewhere, and Ethan kept telling us that daddy was in the shower, out back, etc, then giggling at himself.

Such a fun, cute little boy.
