Travel log
Friday was spent waiting in the airport. And waiting.... Ironically, both us and the California family were planning to arrive at the same time. We both had long enough delays that we both ended up arriving together anyways, just about 5 hours later. It really wasn't that bad, though. Just boring.
Saturday we walked around near the Capitol. We considered going on a tour, but were thwarted by line 1 and line 2. We waited in a line, found out later it was the wrong one and we needed to wait in a different line first... Multiple lines was just too much. What if there were even more! Ah! 
We continued our wanderings and ended up at the Botanical Gardens. Later we headed over to a nearby shopping mall for some lunch. It was pretty chilly, and Ethan wasn't too excited about that, (actually, I think we were all pretty cold), so we headed back to the hotel after that. 
Sunday we went to church, and some of the crew went to Arlington Cemetary. The gravestone pictured is of a cousin of Alan's. I believe they also saw a few of the monuments. Below are the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. 
Amara was pretty excited about the pack 'n play they put in the room for the baby, so she slept in it every night. It actually worked out great-we slid her into a corner and had the family over to watch movies and hang out at night. Tonight's movie: Pride and Prejudice. Pretty good, classic story, not as good as the BBC version.
Monday, we split up a bit. Mom and I and the kids headed over to The Natural History Museum. Very cool. My favorite was the Mammal room, where they had all kinds of animals (dead, and stuffed), many in life-like positions. They also had The Hope Diamond, dinosaur bones, tons of animal skeletons...you get the idea. Lots of stuff.
The rest of the crew headed down to the White House, and also checked out The Spy Museum. Word is that the museum was interesting, but so crowded that they couldn't try out most of the gadgets. Tonight's movie: Elizabethtown. Weird, and disappointing.Tuesday was the big day in court. The morning was spent trying to get in to the courthouse, getting our stuff together, and heading home.

Wow, sounds like a packed trip (at least to me). How did the kids handle everything? What a neat place to visit. Glad you're home safe.

that's cool that Amara wanted to use the pack-n-play. we brought ours on our weekend trip too- hadn't thought the hotel could have one... what chain did you use?
It wasn't really that packed. We spent a good amount of time hanging out, too, and the kids did less walking around than the rest of the group.
About the pack 'n play - we were at the Hyatt, but I believe that a lot of hotels will have a "crib" if you ask for it. You can always call in advance and check!
the website said they had cribs, but I didn't trust them to be clean and sturdy. I just have this idea of a rickety, splintery old crib with germy fluids dried on it. Don't know why I have that image.

Yeah. It was fine. They had sheets on it and everything. It was more of a playpen than a traditional crib. Though I may have inspected it more thoroughly if it was for my little baby. I think of Amara as more durable now that she's older!:)
