Honoring Dad in Disneyland
Something that surprised me, though in retrospect it probably shouldn't have, was that at Disneyland they have a full flag ceremony. Ethan had fallen asleep and I took him out to the main square in the Disneyland Main Street, where there is a "town square," so that Kristina and Amara could continue shopping. My parents met up with us just as Disneyland started the proceedings.
As part of the ceremony they honor each branch of the armed services and ask that those who have served take their place beneath the flag and be honored. I have always been very proud of my dad's service in the Coast Guard and as you will see in the picture he chose to take part in the proceedings. He was told afterwards that they get quite excited when they have people representing all the branches of the armed services be represented. It is likely rare, considering how many fewer people serve in the Coast Guard.
It was a great moment.
