Let the indoctrination begin
Yesterday, the world's biggest sports event began. Did you watch? Do you even know what I'm talking about? I didn't watch, partly because it wasn't even broadcast on local channels!! But Alan went downtown and found a sportsbar, where he watched the first game of The World Cup (Germany 4/Costa Rica 2). Today we were able to watch the England v. Paraguay match, where England came out on top (1-0). I use the term watch loosely, since I was mostly playing with Amara and in the other room during the game. Still, I like soccer, and it is really amazing that most Americans don't really grasp the popularity of this game. Yesterday, 1.5 billion people watched the opening game. Wow. Guess how many watched the Superbowl-93 million. As you can see, we've started early with teaching our children that soccer is cool. We did the same with Amara, including a soccer Halloween costume, and may trips to Earthquakes games. I was going to link to the Earthquakes, but I can't because they no longer exist. They were San Jose's major league soccer team. Sadly, they were unable to get a new stadium there, so they moved to Texas and became the Houston Dynamo. The name Earthquakes has been held in reserve so that eventually an expansion team can be created in San Jose and take that name on again. Kind of weird that our team completely disappeared, but exciting that they have plans for another one in the Bay Area eventually.
Anyway, soccer is cool.

As I was reading your post, my coworkers are making ethnic taunts about tommorows Iran/Mexico game (we have many Mexicans and Iranians in my company). World cup is giant in my office, even now I am ordered to search for stats and such.
wow, I don't know what you're talking about at all.
other than the world cup, none of those names and numbers are familiar to me. I'm so not in that loop!
soccer is a good sport. but I don't apreciate sports on the whole.
Do you PLAY soccer? Wendi Cuvelier and her whole family, baby and all, are going to the World Cup. I guess maybe they're there now. Anyway, I think soccer on the whole is a good sport, but personally I don't want to sit and WATCH a sport unless someone I know (like my little brother or my son) is on the team. I have too many other important things to do. Like comment on your blog ;)
I had heard about the Cuveliers. In fact, Cory emailed Alan a copy of the tickets to taunt him! They used to talk soccer all the time.
