Figuring stuff out
Amara's brain has been working on overdrive lately. She's been asking more detailed questions lately in order to figure out how things work. Here are a few specifics from the last week:
1. Meanies. After watching a few Disney movies lately, Amara has dubbed all villains "meanies." The other day she overhead us talking about someone who's car was stolen, so I explained to her that sometimes meanies steal cars from other people.... After inspecting the cover of Aladdin (hasn't seen it yet), she asked which character is the meanie, and if he'd be stealing Aladdin's car in the movie.
2. Mummy Daddy. Has anyone else seen this? Its one episode of a series called Amazing Stories from the 80's. It had become a bit of a cult classic among Alan's family, and it was finally released on DVD, so we watched it the other night. Its pretty silly, and involves an actor/mummy who's wife goes into labor during filming. He rushes to the hospital in costume and has all sorts of problems. Meanwhile, there's a "real" mummy chasing him... Trying to explain all this to a 3 year-old who keeps asking about mommies/mummies, actor mummies/"real" mummies that are all pretend anyways, and whether or not they're meanies... whew!
3. Glasses. My mom was looking for her glasses the other day. Amara waved her hand in front of my mom's face, asking, "Can you still see kiddos?"
4. The good old technicolor yawn. Yesterday Amara puked all over herself in the car. Twice. In rapid succession. Why? No clue. No signs of sickness or other problems. There have been numerous inquiries about throwing up since then. Did everything come up? Even ice cream?
5. There has also been a slew of questions about how things are made. How do you make bread? How do you make mattresses? Cars? Can people help people make cheerios?
Ethan's also been figuring out stuff: He's picked up a few more words and signs. I think "fish" is my favorite. He's also learned to stand up in the middle of the room without using anything for support. His imitations have reached a whole new level, with sounds, clapping, fake cries, etc.

That was really funny, especially the meanie mummy mommy part. Whats also sad is I totally know how mattresses are made...but it is very very boreing.
Mummy Daddy was funny. Kate liked it and was mad when I made her leave the room.
